HRPDP
PROJECT SUMMARY
HRPDP (The Human Resource Professional Development Program) is a job family based training effort initiated to improve HR Generalist and Academic Personnel Analyst performance following major reorganization of HR functions and processes at UC Berkeley.
ROLE: Lead consultant and project manager providing pre-intervention needs and risk assessment, instructional design, learning assessment, script and content creation, branding, and graphic design.
Collaborators: Anita Bailey, Adam Burke, Karie Frasch, Heather Archer, Jo Mackness and Jennifer Chizuk.
AUDIENCE: 295 employees
INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY: Hybrid, Competency Based
The HRPDP eLearning library (Canvas) provides written content, embedded video, case study, process maps and job aids (101-107). Live interactive Zoom sessions expand core content and provide opportunities for more complex applied, case-based learning and skill development (201-207). Password protected content.
CONTENT: Program traces HR actions following employee lifecycle by classification, from hiring to separation. It includes complex compliance, legal and process related materials created in collaboration with Employee Labor Relations and other dispersed subject matter experts. The overarching instructional strategy elevates the HR generalist role by building capacity for independent problem solving and application of policy, more effective risk assessment and proactive response to client needs.
IMPACT: The first hybrid program developed by People & Culture. Significant cost savings realized by transferring core content to blended model. Accelerates on-boarding and manager oversight of training, and allows busy adult learners to set their own pace.
Awards:
Spot Award for Instructional Design Innovation, 2019
TESTIMONIAL:
I worked closely with Elizabeth to develop a first-of-its-kind professional development training module for HR professionals who support the hiring of academic personnel at UC Berkeley. The hiring process from start to finish is complex and nuanced. Elizabeth interviewed dozens of individuals, and learned the process well enough within a short time that she could have taken on the job herself! In addition to the nuts and bolts of the hiring process, Elizabeth understood right away that this tool needed to address multiple interpersonal dynamics between individuals at different levels within the organization. She created a way to seamlessly integrate these ideas and values throughout the module, leading to increased confidence and a sense of ownership and empowerment by those performing the job. Elizabeth is also a true pleasure to interact with - a team player, consummate professional, and always focused on getting the best possible outcome.
